Updated 2026-08-14. These are counts of listings we tracked — not a census of media hiring. Read the methodology before quoting a figure.
Median advertised annual salary (lower bound of the stated range): $79,400, from the 33 listings that state an annual figure. Listings quoting hourly, daily or per-project rates are excluded — mixing them into one median would describe nothing.
The series starts 2026-08-14. It is 1 day long so far — too short to show a trend, and we would rather say that than draw a line through two points.

What this counts. Every listing currently published on Open Assignments, recounted on each build. A listing enters when one of our tracked sources publishes it and it passes a relevance filter for journalism, documentary, video production, photojournalism, audio and public-media work. It leaves 30 days after we last saw it.
What this is not. It is not a census of media hiring, and it will undercount. We see what our sources publish; roles filled by word of mouth, posted only to an internal board, or listed somewhere we do not track are invisible to us. Employers who post to several boards can appear more than once despite de-duplication. The sample is self-selected toward organisations that advertise publicly.
Pay figures. "States a pay figure" means the listing itself published compensation — a range, a rate, or a qualitative answer such as "negotiable". We do not estimate, infer or impute pay, so this measures disclosure, not what the job actually pays. The median uses only listings quoting an annual salary, and takes the lower bound of a stated range.
Revisions. Each day's row is written once and not edited afterwards. If we change how a figure is computed, the change applies going forward and is noted here rather than applied backwards, so a number you cited stays the number we published.
