Job Description Location: New York, NY Deputy Editor, AD Overview Architectural Digest is seeking a Deputy Editor to help shape and execute the editorial future of the brand across every platform.

Reporting to the Global Editorial Director, this senior editorial leader will identify, develop, and champion the ambitious ideas and signature franchises that define AD, ensuring the brand's strongest journalism, talent, and storytelling extend across the print and digital newsroom, including AD PRO, newsletters, social, video, commerce, and emerging platforms. The Deputy Editor will translate the Global Editorial Director’s vision into clear editorial priorities, raise the caliber and ambition of work across the organization, and serve as a senior mentor to editors and writers.

The role has particular management responsibility for AD PRO, developing its team and ensuring consistently strong editorial execution.

Responsibilities Shape editorial strategy: Work with the Global Editorial Director to set and execute the editorial priorities, stories, themes, and cultural conversations that define AD. Conceive and lead development of signature editorial initiatives, packages, and recurring franchises that can extend across the print and digital newsroom, video, and social. Identify opportunities for editorial innovation, new storytelling formats, and audience experiences that strengthen the brand’s authority and relevance. Ensure a consistently ambitious, distinctive, and high-quality editorial point of view across the brand. Drive audience growth: Lead major editorial ideas from development through execution across platforms, maximizing their reach, relevance, and impact. Partner with audience, digital, video, social, and other leads to use performance insights and analytics to inform editorial strategy and maximize the reach and impact of AD’s journalism. Develop editorial initiatives that contribute to audience growth, including engagement, subscriptions, video views, newsletter growth, and other key performance metrics.

Build relationships with AD’s international editorial teams, sharing ideas, talent, franchises, and opportunities across markets where relevant. Lead, develop, and elevate editorial talent: Serve as a senior editorial leader across the organization, providing direction, feedback, coaching, and mentorship while encouraging ambitious thinking, strong editorial judgment, collaboration, and accountability. Conceive, assign, edit, and write high-impact editorial projects while helping editors and writers develop their strongest work. Support revenue growth: Work closely with business and revenue leaders to identify editorially appropriate opportunities around major franchises, events, partnerships, memberships, commerce, and other initiatives that can drive audience and revenue growth. Protect AD’s editorial independence and standards, ensuring that commercial opportunities support the brand’s editorial authority, credibility, and point of view. Represent AD externally through speaking engagements, industry events, partnerships, and other brand opportunities.

Qualifications 10+ years of editorial leadership experience. Exceptional editorial judgment and creative instincts. Demonstrated success developing ambitious editorial across multiple platforms. Outstanding editing and writing skills. Deep understanding of digital publishing, print, social, newsletters, video, commerce, and audience development. Strong collaborative leadership skills and the ability to lead and influence across teams, including those outside direct reporting lines. The expected base salary range for this position is from $111,000 - $200,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
