Job description

General Assignment Reporter Columbus, OH, United States The General Assignment Reporter will create, shoot, write and edit meaningful stories for station's newscast that can be used across multiple platforms. WSYX/WTTE is looking for an experienced, passionate storyteller to join one of the Midwest's most aggressive local newsrooms. We're seeking a reporter with a minimum of four years of professional reporting experience who thrives on enterprise journalism, uncovers stories others miss, and understands that great reporting goes beyond covering scheduled events. If you're driven by curiosity, accountability, and serving your community through impactful journalism, we want to hear from you. At WSYX/WTTE, we believe local journalism should make a difference. Our reporters are expected to break news, ask tough questions, hold those in power accountable, and produce compelling stories that resonate across television, digital, streaming, and social platforms.

Responsibilities Develop original, enterprise story ideas that have meaningful impact on the communities we serve. Produce creative, memorable storytelling that distinguishes our newsroom from the competition. Report with an advocacy mindset—championing issues important to viewers while maintaining the highest journalistic standards. Cultivate sources throughout Central Ohio to consistently generate exclusive stories. Deliver live reports during breaking news and major events. Write and produce content for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media platforms with urgency and accuracy. Shoot, write, and edit stories as needed while collaborating closely with photographers, producers, editors, and the digital team. Represent the station professionally in the community and on social media.

Qualifications Minimum of four years of television news reporting experience. Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience. A strong portfolio demonstrating creative enterprise reporting and impactful advocacy journalism is required. Proven ability to consistently generate original story ideas and exclusives. Exceptional live reporting and storytelling skills. Strong writing, interviewing, and investigative abilities. Ability to work under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy and fairness. Experience producing content for multiple platforms, including digital and social media. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is naturally curious, relentlessly competitive, and committed to making a difference through journalism. You're someone who doesn't wait for stories to come to you—you develop them through strong sourcing, persistence, and creative thinking. You understand that every story should answer the question, "Why does this matter to our viewers?" and you strive to produce journalism that informs, empowers, and creates positive change in our community. Columbus is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, offering no shortage of stories—from government accountability and public safety to education, business, growth, sports, and quality of life. If you're looking for a newsroom that values enterprise reporting, innovation, and impactful journalism, we'd love to meet you.
