WTOL 11 is looking for a Weekend Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist who brings curiosity, confidence and a commitment to local journalism to every story and every newscast. We want a journalist who asks thoughtful questions, develops sources and follows through. Someone who can lead breaking news coverage with clarity, connect naturally with viewers and deliver original reporting that makes a difference in our community. In this role, you will anchor our weekend newscasts and report during the week, helping shape coverage across television, digital and streaming. You should be as comfortable shooting and editing a compelling story as you are guiding viewers through a developing situation at the anchor desk.
What you’ll do Anchor weekend newscasts with credibility, warmth and strong editorial judgment. Work closely with producers to build relevant, engaging newscasts, contributing to story selection, writing and presentation. Develop, pitch, shoot, write and edit original stories that reflect life across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Build trusted sources and community relationships that lead to enterprise reporting and accountability journalism. Deliver clear, compelling live reports and adapt confidently as stories develop. Write and update digital stories, contribute to streaming coverage and use social platforms to inform and engage audiences. Take ownership of accuracy, context and follow-up, from the first breaking update through the next day’s reporting. Be a collaborative newsroom leader who communicates well, welcomes coaching and helps teammates succeed. What you’ll bring Strong reporting, writing, interviewing and storytelling skills. An engaging on-air presence and the ability to communicate naturally beyond a script. Sound news judgment and a commitment to accuracy, fairness and ethical journalism.
The ability to independently shoot and edit video and manage deadlines. A clear understanding of how storytelling changes across broadcast, digital, social and streaming platforms. Initiative, adaptability and a willingness to work weekends, evenings and holidays as coverage requires. Professional television reporting experience; anchoring experience is a plus.
