Job Summary/Description: WIS is seeking a creative, driven Digital Content Producer to create, coordinate, and distribute news and sports content across WIS digital platforms and social media. This role is responsible for developing unique, engaging angles that resonate with digital audiences, with a strong emphasis on high school, college, and statewide sports coverage.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Digital news and sports production & reporting:
• Report, write, and publish news and sports stories daily, with a focus on the most impactful local, regional, and national developments.
• Maintain a heavy focus on high school and college sports across the Midlands and South Carolina, including game coverage, athlete features, recruiting, championships, and breaking sports news.
• Produce timely digital coverage during nights and weekends, particularly around live sporting events, playoffs, championships, and other major sports moments.
• Develop original digital story ideas and enterprise content that go beyond traditional coverage.
• Create content for the Palmetto Sports and Entertainment app.
• Produce clear, accurate, and engaging copy that adheres to Associated Press (AP) style and WIS editorial standards.
• Identify compelling sports-related angles, trends, and audience conversations that can drive engagement across digital and social platforms. Platform management & publishing:
• Coordinate and publish content across WIS.com, WIS mobile and streaming apps, YouTube, the Palmetto Sports and Entertainment app, and all major social media platforms.
• Adapt stories, headlines, photos, video, and live updates for individual platforms, optimizing content presentation based on audience behavior and platform best practices.
• Regularly create and schedule social media posts to promote WIS news and sports content and engage audiences.
• Assist with real-time digital and social coverage of sporting events, including live blogs, score updates, highlights, postgame coverage, and audience interaction.
• Work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and occasional holidays as news and sports coverage demands. Analytics & strategy:
• Monitor audience analytics and performance metrics across platforms.
• Use data insights to inform editorial decisions, refine content strategy, and identify opportunities for growth and engagement, particularly around sports content.
• Track sports audience interests and emerging trends to help shape daily coverage and longer-term content plans.
• Respond to shifting priorities in a fast-paced news and sports environment, adjusting coverage strategies as needed. Editorial standards & collaboration:
• Demonstrate strong news judgment in story selection, framing, and presentation.
• Collaborate with newsroom staff, including reporters, anchors, producers, photographers, and the sports team, to maximize the impact of WIS digital content.
• Coordinate with sports reporters and photographers to ensure timely and comprehensive coverage of games, tournaments, athlete stories, and breaking sports news.
• Uphold the highest journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity across all digital platforms.
• Provide copyediting and developmental editing support for digital stories and social posts as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Strong writing, editing, and copyediting skills, with demonstrated knowledge of AP style.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
